This is a salted caramel milkshake

why a milkshake

Every time my grandmother flew over to us from the islands of Hawaii, she would love to celebrate her return with steak and shake. She would always get a vanilla milkshake and allow us to order whatever we wanted. My mother introduced to me the salted caramel milkshake they had which at time I believed was called the Turtle Caramel Nut. From this day on I enjoy me a good salted caramel milkshake and here is my take on the recipe.

The Recipe

  • 1 Cup Milk

  • 4-5 scoops of cold vanilla ice cream or salted caramel ice cream

  • 2 Tbsp Caramel Sauce, extra caramel sauce (for chilled glass)

  • Salt to taste

  • Chilled glass for serving

  • Whip cream and Maraschino cherrys for topping

Instructions

  1. Add milk, ice cream and 2 tbsp caramel sauce to a blender

  2. Blend mixture for 30 seconds until smooth

  3. Salt to taste for your liking

  4. Using either a spoon or sauce bottle, lightly line top of the glass with caramel sauce allowing it to drip down the inside.

  5. Pour milkshake inside of chilled glass

  6. Top with whipped cream and the maraschino cherry

FInal Thoughts

This milkshake is a little bit to sweet for me, but it reminds me of the times I spent with my grandma. I suggest for those making this recipe to adjust any of the ingredients to your liking whether you want it to be more sweet or salty. In my opinion I recommend that you use salted caramel ice cream to achieve the ideal flavor.
